Marsh Trail (approx. 6 miles)
This trail is not recommended for wheelchairs or pushchairs as there are several stiles and the paths are uneven and narrow in places, but the route can be good fun for children. Start at the Pilot Boat Inn; follow the track that runs to the right of the pub (Footpath BB19 Bembridge Trail), you will come to a cross roads, go straight ahead where you should meet a boardwalk. The path comes out onto a road, head right for about a quarter of a mile until you get to the gate with a ‘Bembridge Windmill’ sign, head down the track to the windmill, then on the right head over the stile onto footpath BB21. Follow this path down to the airfield where there is another stile (BB20), after a short while you reach a crossroad, take the right (BB23). You will now be heading along the old seawall and quay with the marsh on your right, take a sharp right straight after the kissing gate onto a narrow path between the private driveway and a low stonewall. At the end of the path is a gate onto a dirt track, follow the track along to Carpenter’s Road, turn right and head up the hill to the ‘Green’. Once past the ‘Green’ keep following the main road round the edge of the harbour, passing houseboats and moored yachts along the way until you reach where you started.
