Local Species : The Medina estuary is a bit busier than the other rivers with regards to human traffic. There are often pleasure craft on the water and the marinas are well used. The banks see quite a lot of activity with industrial works and water sport groups. This can mean that there are not as many of the shyer species around, although you will still find plenty to see, you just may have to look a bit harder. The key species that your beady eye may spot here are: Oystercatcher, Curlew, Little Egret, Heron, Cormorant, Moorhen, Swan, Robin, various Tits, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Coots and various Gulls, perhaps even a Barn Owl if you travel this route in the evening. The mammal population is very active along here with Rabbits, Red Squirrels, Shrews and Weasels often spotted, particularly along the cycle track. |
